Going for ALL!

As the Tour de France had its Gran Depart today, Lisa and I headed out for a tour of Franklin and Madison Counties. Unlike the last week or so, the temperatures were comfortable.(59F at the start.) It was nice to work up a sweat from work and not from just sitting still.

The wind was odd today; coming out of NNE. That led to a rarity: a tail wind when going West. But it wasn’t super strong. We kept our pace pretty well.

We’re just a week away from beginning our adventure. ALL!

Unofficial kickoff on a chilly morning in KY

On April 21st, Lisa and I unofficially kicked off the Raise One For Anne Tour by participating in the 100km Red Bud Ride in London, KY. It was a Sunny yet brisk morning(38F!) when we set out from downtown London for a tour of part of The Daniel Boone National Forest. Dressed like bob sledding Eskimos we were off with the stiffness from sleeping in a hotel bed and the morning chill. The Red Bud Ride presented us with about 3000 ft of climbing in a day. For perspective, I can ride the same distance near Columbus and barely crack 1000 ft. But Raise One For Anne isn't about doing things because they are easy. The people who live with epilepsy don't have easy lives. We dealt with the early rollers and found the first SAG station about 20 miles in to grab a snack, fill up water bottles, and get rid of our morning coffee. 87 mile...reroute+ bad math=> 100 mile ride

We rolled out this morning about 630 in an attempt to avoid the heat. It was nice and cool with long shadows of Sunrise. About mile 40 we decided to change up our 87 mile route. I failed at doing math backward in my head and picked a turn around point that would actually put us at 97 miles by the time we got home.  97 is completely unacceptable! So we chose to go for ALL! and ride 100 miles. This meant an extra stop on the way back for water and food. Don’t judge me! They were delicious! Our training plan didn’t call for back to back centuries but we did it! And we have an even longer training ride planned for next weekend. Fundraising is going okay. Thanks to all who already donated! Remember any amount is accepted! On another note today marks 4 years since the last time we saw Anne before she died. That was a good day!

Back to Back Sundays with 50 Mile Rides

Each year we do this, in whatever current incarnation suits us, it starts to get more real when we start logging longer days on the bike. The last two Sundays, we’ve ridden 50+ miles each. Getting out butts accustomed to “seat” time is tough during the Winter. But the Spring finally looks to be happening in Central Ohio, so away we go! Training. Brainstorming fundraising ideas. Making notes about logistical stuff for the long day. We’ve got time but it all needs to happen.  We are looking for people to share the draft in July(looking hard at 7/23).
