A Spontaneous 100 - And Yes, I'm Still Fired

Sooooo, I still am bad about updating this blog. Honestly, I prefer it to fb but fb is easier.

A couple weeks ago, Lisa and I started what was to be an 80 mile test ride with our Canyon Grails to see if we could stomach them for the 100 mile ride we had planned in Michigan about 10 days later. I'd been fighting with mine lately on rides over 40 miles.

We started on a cool Saturday morning and were enjoying the temperatures and quiet roads. About 20 miles in, and about 5 miles before our "natural break" stop, a thought started running through my head but I kept it to myself until we stopped.

When we reached our stopped I gave voice to my thought: the weather is nice, the preliminary forecast for MI is high winds, we should think about just doing 100 today. Lisa didn't automatically shoot the idea down. We agreed that based on our planned route we could wait until about mile 62 to make a decision.

Along the way we crossed over I-71 for the second time that day.

As you can see, we hit our decision point and decided to go for ALL! ALL! ALL!

After our decision we headed out to London, OH to add on some miles and so we could pick up some water. Then I started clowning on the bike and took advantage of the bike path that became part of our route to take a picture of Lisa and rail cars.

The toughest work is always in the last 20. But you make it fun by singing. About mile 97, I started serenading Lisa with Green Day's "Dominated Love Slave". I think she started riding faster to get away from me.

We had to throw in a lap around the park in front of our house to hit the 100+ mile marker. But hey, the pros ride finishing circuits too.

So, number 4 was completed. We didn't plan on it but it happened. It did make our vacation a little more enjoyable to just be able to ride to just ride and not have to put on miles. One more to go in September!

Oh and just in case you require proof.
